Photojournalist Vernon Young Jr. seeks to express life through his camera by giving a voice to the voiceless in much the same way a painter, poet or musician evoke feelings and reactions through their respective media.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Vernon considers himself a passionate visual storyteller and a great portion of his work depicts his love for religion, people and the human condition. Experiencing his dynamic portraiture, award-winning peak action photojournalism, and unique pictorials of diverse areas of the country give the effect of being immersed in the moment with Vernon.
In every aspect of Vernon's work, his ultimate goal is to educate and encourage viewers through still imagery by turning his feelings into images. His passion for photography makes him sensitive to the beauty that is all around, capturing the essence whomever or whatever is in front of his lens.
When I was 11 years old I was introduced to Christianity. I prayed and asked God for guidance and direction for my talents. I was led to photography and it has allowed me to deliver a message without words. Since 2004, I've lived in four different states, including Syracuse, N.Y., where I believe my mind was opened to a greater meaning of what life is about as a student at the Newhouse School of Communication. After nearly 10 years of working as a photojournalist, I've come to realize that artistic expression is not just what I love, but who I am. I'm a passionate artist telling a story about life through you.
